HOLLYWOOD actor and film-maker Danny DeVito has been spotted filming a show at Southend’s world-famous pier.

Danny visited the pier with TV chef Jamie Oliver for Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast cooking show.

The show sees Jamie and Jimmy Doherty joined by big names who help cook a meal at their cafe at the end of the pier.

The visit has caused a lot of excitement across the town.

Councillors and traders said this was good for the town - and for business.

Julian Ware-Lane, Labour councillor for Milton, said the visit was so exciting.

He said: “I have been a fan of Danny DeVito for years and seen him in some great films and comedy series.

“I think this helps to put Southend on the map even more.

“The thought of having such a big Hollywood name on our humble pier is tremendously good news.

“I think this will encourage even more people to Southend.”

He said residents and visitors who saw the actor would have been excited too.

Paul Thompson, 44, owner of Pebbles One cafe, Marine Parade, Southend, said the visit was fantastic for the area.

He said: “Jamie Oliver has managed to get some major stars on the pier.

“I think Danny DeVito’s visit is good advertising for the town.

“Everyone likes to bump into A-list celebrities, well done to everyone involved.”

The TV chef took to Twitter to post about the special visit.

Jamie Oliver tweeted: “As the sun sets on Southend on this beautiful day, I took this picture of my wonderful food squad who were very excited to meet the one and only Danny DeVito, great day team, hard work but worth it.

“The light’s amazing, zero filter, program nine, done.”

The programme is presented by Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty.

Famous faces who have appeared on the show include Usain Bolt in 2014.
