AN ARTS council draw crowds with an open day.

Southend Arts Council held the event at The Royals Shopping Centre High Street, Southend.

There was plenty of fun and entertainment such as live performances.

There were different stalls, chances to discuss membership and upcoming events as well as learning opportunities.

There were also some special guests on the day including Derek Jarvis, Mayor of Southend and Tory councillor Ann Holland.

Organisers and visitors have hailed the event a success.

Ms Holland said: "Another successful Open Day for Southend Arts Council where various Drama Groups and Dance groups performed to appreciated shoppers.

" This was our first year at the Royals but it was good to be able to showcase the talents of our various members.

"The tables were also hosted by other members showing an array of different aspects such as authors, silk work, motif printing and painting giving shoppers an insight into what they could join or buy early Christmas presents."

It was held on Saturday September 29.
