CANVEY looks set to get its first Starbucks.

A new Starbucks Drive Thru has been proposed for outside Morrisons supermarket in Northwick Road.

The proposed cafe would create a total of 30 full-time and part-time jobs for people on the island.

A planning application stated: “The site in question comprises of an undeveloped area to the eastern edge of the customer car park serving the Morrisons store.

“The proposed drive thru’ unit would form a complementary addition to the existing range of uses within the Morrisons site and local area and would generate a number of job opportunities for local people.

“The employment benefits associated with the proposals should be given significant weight in the assessment of the proposals.

“The site lies within an identified shopping area within the adopted local plan, however, it is noted that the site is not located within a defined town centre.”

The drive-through would be created on the same site the Echo first reported a Costa Coffee branch would be built in June 2016.

The original plan was for it to be part of the Roscommon Way business park, that looks set to create more than 500 jobs.

Only five parking spaces will be created as part of the plan, all of them disabled or for parents and children.

The planning statement said: “The main supermarket building lies to the south of the application site, with a petrol filling station to the north adjoining the main site access.

“In addition, an existing McDonald’s drive thru’ fast food restaurant is located east of the application site.

“A drive thru’ lane will be provided around the building and a number of disabled and parent and child bays will be provided to the front of the building.”
