A WICKFORD business owner has raised money for two charities to celebrate her wig shop’s first birthday.

Carla Watson, who owns Watson Wigs, in Wickford, invited people to have their hair cut for charity.

The event saw a number of women and girls kindly donate their hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

The total amount of hair donated was 112 inches, and the money raised on the day was more than £300.

Ella Smith, five, bravely volunteered to have 14 inches of her blonde locks cut, along with Freya Church, nine, and Rae Macklin, ten, who had ten and seven inches cut for the charity.

Miss Watson, 35, who had ten inches of her hair chopped, said: “I’m so pleased with how the day turned out and the money we raised is brilliant.

“I’m so impressed with the brave ladies and girls that wanted to get involved and donate their hair.

“To be able to give this donation to help make wigs for children is a great feeling.”

The cash raised will be split between the Little Princess Trust and a charity close to Miss Watson’s heart - the Brain Tumour Charity.

There was also a host of fun things happening on the day including face painting, craft stalls, cake stalls, and a beauty stall for nail painting.
