Police are in the position to formally identify a man whose remains were found in Rochford.

A human skull was found on land off Shopland Road in September 2017 and a number of bones were uncovered in a similar location in August this year.

After forensic testing, we are able to identify that these bones belong to Steven Drummond, born in 1961, from Glasgow.

Steven was believed to have been homeless around the Shopland area of Rochford before his death.

Officers need to speak to anyone who may have information about his movements in 2017 or who knew Steven and had been in contact with him over the past few years.

Det Insp Julie Gowen, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “I need to speak to anyone who can help us piece together Steven’s movements before he died.

"If you knew him in 2017, I need you to come forward and speak to my team.

"I hope this can provide Steven’s family with some answers about his last days, and why he was in this part of Essex, to offer them some peace at this difficult time.”

Detectives continue to treat Steven’s death as unexplained.

Anyone with information relating to Steven’s movements or associations before his death is asked to call the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate on 101.
