A WORLD record attempt by cinema staff and customers to get 334 people to simultaneously perform the Oops Upside Your Head dance routine raised hundreds of pounds for Children in Need.

Cineworld Basildon, Festival Leisure Park failed to achieve the record but hundreds of people still had a lot of fun performing the 1970s dance classic.

The event raised £580 for Children In Need.

The day started off with a quick rehearsal before the main event and the dancing began at 10am.

The event was broadcast live by presenter Danny Lawrence from Gateway Radio, and even Pudsey the Bear joined in on the fun.

Matthew Chambers, centre manager at Festival Leisure Park, said: “We had a fantastic day, supporting Cineworld with their fundraising for Children In Need.

“We were delighted with the support from the local community, and our grand total of £580.00 towards Children In Need.”

Phil Pierce, manager at Cineworld Basildon said: “Thank you to all of the visitors who came to Cineworld and supported us in this fantastic fundraising.

“It was great to see so many people spend their Sunday morning with us to help raise money for a wonderful cause.”

The current world record is 333 as set by a group in Whitley Bay, in September
