Emergency services were spotted flocking to a housing estate in Basildon following reports that two people were stabbed.
A reported six police cars and three ambulances were seen outside of Kams Loco shop in Peterborough Way, near to the Craylands estate yesterday at around 8.15pm.
Witnesses to the incident said Peterborough Way had been blocked off entirely.
One resident, who asked not to be named said: "Two people were stabbed in the street and there was one person receiving treatment from paramedics.
"A larger police presence is needed and a lot of people know they can get away with committing crimes as there are so little police cars and officers in Basildon, knowing they have to cover a huge area.
Another resident added: "There were dozens of officers in the street and flashing lights everywhere. I was told that some officers were armed.
"The estate has got extremely dangerous in recent times and it's a big worry when incidents like this happen so close to where you live."
Residents also reported seeing a helicopter flying overhead in areas of Basildon shortly after the incident was first reported.
Police were still at the scene for hours after the incident took place.
The Echo has contacted Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service following the incident.
