A man has been arrested following an attack in a Basildon housing estate.
Police and paramedics were seen flocking to Peterborough Way near to Craylands following reports of a stabbing in the road.
An Essex Police spokesman said officers were called to a reported assault in Blackwater Way at around 7.55pm last night.
The spokesman added: "We initially received information that a man had been stabbed and the air ambulance was called as a precaution.
"When we arrived we discovered that the man had not been stabbed but had been punched. However, he was uncooperative and refused hospital treatment.
"We searched the area for suspects without success.
"We arrested a 36-year-old man from Eastwood at the scene on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.
"He remains in custody for questioning."
