Drivers were amazed as they passed a car that had crashed in a country lane.
The silver Ford Fiesta was spotted on Rectory Road, Little Burstead, stuck on the stump of a tree in a ditch.
Police were reported at the scene of the crash near to St Mary The Virgin Church, where the front of the vehicle had been badly damaged.
A driver who passed the incident, said: "I stumbled across it as I was on my way home.
"People were slowing down to take a look, it's quite strange how it managed to get there.
"I do not know how it happened.
"I saw it around 6pm, but other people told me they saw blue lights driving nearby in the early hours of Friday morning."
The Echo has contacted Essex Police following the incident yesterday evening.
