BILLERICAY Town were pegged back twice by Taunton Town in a hugely entertaining FA Cup tie at the AGP Arena.

Moses Emmanuel twice gave Billericay the lead in the fourth qualifying round tie but Taunton responded quickly on both occasions and, despite being reduced to 10 men late on, held on for the draw.

The hosts handed debuts to Ethan Stewart and Joe Coveney following loan switches from Nottingham Forest as well as rangy frontman Ross Lafayette with Jake Robinson left out of the squad because of a broken toe.

Both sides enjoyed early corners but it was Lafayette that had the best chance to open the scoring – the striker nodding wide of the post.

But Billericay were to take the lead. On 17 minutes Lafayette won the ball in the offensive third and fed a through ball through to Emmanuel.

The striker appeared to be offside but the assistant referee kept his flag down and he slid his effort low underneath the dive of Lloyd Irish.

But four minutes later the scores were level. A ball from a wide right position was not dealt with and Andrew Neal raced through to clip the ball into the bottom corner.

There was little in the contest. Irish stuck out an arm to push a long range Sam Deering effort wide.

But it was almost Taunton that led at half-time. Some nervy defending was picked up on and Alan Julian spread himself expertly to tip aside a Matt Wright strike.

And two minutes later Billericay were ahead. Emmanuel was played through and his deft chip beat Irish and found the net.

But once again Taunton hit back almost immediately. Some penalty area pinball resulted in the ball dropping to Ben Adelsbury and he slammed home from close range.

There was nothing between the two teams in the first 15 minutes of the second half but out of nothing Taunton were handed a wonderful chance to take the lead for the first time.

A push by Lafayette in the box was penalised and Wright stepped up but his penalty smacked the underside of the crossbar before being cleared.

Billericay’s hopes were then given a boost when Neal was dismissed for a late tackle on substitute Dean Inman.

Dean Brennan’s team pushed for a winner, Joe Kizzi heading off target when well placed.

Substitute Ricky Modeste slashed high and wide in the final minute with the two going face to face once again on Wednesday.

Concord Rangers 0-1 Dover Athletic

Concord Rangers’ FA Cup journey came to an end at the hands of Dover Athletic.

Inih Effiong’s goal was the difference between the two although Concord pushed for a late equaliser.

The Beach Boys forced Mitch Walker into an early save, Alex Wall sending a tame effort at the away custodian.

Up the other end Effiong saw a strike deflected wide of the upright as Dover found their stride and they came even closer shortly afterwards.

Nortei Nortey was sent into the clear but he curled his attempt over the crossbar with just goalkeeper Sam Beasant to beat.

Effiong shot narrowly off target once again with Wall missing a golden chance shortly afterwards.

And the home team improved after the break. More assured in possession Concord struggled to break down Dover who themselves were still looking threatening.

And Concord were dealt a huge blow with 10 minutes remaining. Effiong’s free-kick beat Beasant and Dover had the lead heading into the closing stages.

Tyrone Sterling hit the bar for Concord late on but it wasn’t to be.
