COVENTRY City manager Mark Robins felt it would have been an ‘absolute travesty’ had his side not won at Southend United.

Jodi Jones’ deflected injury time effort handed Coventry a 2-1 victory against the Shrimpers at Roots Hall.

And Robins thought the Sky Blues were worthy winners.

“It could have been 3-0 before they scored and the Tom Davies effort that wasn’t given was two yards in the net so had we not won the game it would have been an absolute travesty,” said Robins.

“But I think Southend are a good team and make it really difficult with the way they play.

“They are confident on the ball and move it around a lot but we were really good and good value for the win.

“We were backed outstandingly again by the fans and I am just happy to go away with the three points because we deserved them.”

The victory pushed Coventry up to 10th in the League One standings and Robins was pleased to see the visitors caused Blues problems with their set pieces.

“We had some impressive deliveries and it’s about time because we have been working on it for a long time,” said Robins.

“It’s taken a while for them to get any joy from it but you can see they are starting to believe that they can score from them and we have gained the rewards from that.

“But I thought we were calm and they understood their roles in terms of the attacking personnel in the formation.

“Jordy (Hiwula) and Jodi (Jones) have got the headlines and it’s a good win because Southend have a way of playing that stretches you.”
