A DELIVERY driver was tied up and beaten during a “brazen” daylight robbery at the side of a busy road.

Police are appealing for information after the delivery driver was grabbed from behind, tied up and robbed.

The victim, aged in his 20s, parked up in Daws Heath Road, at around 9am on Tuesday, November 6, and got out of his vehicle.

He stopped near Daws Heath Road Kennels, just off the busy A127 heading into Southend.

Two men then grabbed him, dragged him back into his van and then bound him at his wrists and ankles.

They then punched him in the face, stole about a dozen parcels of unknown value and drove off in a white lorry that was parked nearby leaving him trapped.

The victim was eventually able to break free from the ties and escape to the road where he flagged down a passing motorist and sought help.

He was left shaken but not in need of medical treatment.

Det Con Victoria Leese, of Southend CID, said: “This was a particularly brazen robbery during morning rush hour on a delivery driver who was innocently just doing his job.

“Luckily the victim managed to escape from his van and flag down a passing motorist who called us.

“Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured and he is now assisting us while we continue to investigate.

“We would urge anyone with information or who noticed anything suspicious behaviour or vehicles close to some boarding kennels to call us as soon as possible.”
