Southend West MP Sir David Amess joined community leaders and politicians at the annual Centre for Turkey Studies Gala.

The event celebrated the achievements of individuals from the Turkish, Kurdish and Turkish-Cypriot community who have made an impact in the last year.

Founded in 2011, CEFTUS is a non-partisan research organisation based in London that provides a platform for informed debate and discussion on Turkey and its region.

The organisation aims to build bridges between Turkey and the UK as well as bring together Turkish, Kurdish and Turkish Cypriot communities in Britain.

Sir David said: “I am delighted to congratulate the Centre for Turkey Studies (CEFTUS) on its seventh anniversary. In times of great political upheaval and serious challenges to human rights and freedom of expression around the world, an organisation like CEFTUS, which focuses on cross-party debate and is committed to civil liberties for all peoples, is an important force for good. Equally important are the Turkish, Kurdish, and Turkish Cypriot communities living in Britain who make an invaluable cultural and economic contribution to the UK.”

The gala was held on Monday October 15.
