A MOVING tribute was created on the Strood to the men from East Mersea, West Mersea and Peldon who lost their lives in the First World War.

Duncan Pittock designed, organised, fund-raised, researched and coordinated the installation of the steel silhouettes.

He said: “It is quite moving being congratulated by strangers who are emotionally lost for words and glassy eyed.

“Thank you everyone who has said such nice words over the last couple of days also my own small army of volunteers.

“Ultimately the silhouettes are about the First World War men who didn’t come home and still stirs strong emotions 100 years later.”
