Thousands of the district’s residents gathered to commemorate Armistice Day on Sunday.

A number of services were held in Braintree, Witham and the surrounding villages to mark the centenary event.

Pupils at St Peter’s Primary School in Coggeshall helped to mark the village’s centenary commemorations by draping a netting of more than 1,000 poppies near the memorial in the recreation ground.

A parade of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts were led by a First World War military ambulance to the village hall in Silver End.

Just under 400 members of the village community paid their respect to the fallen and wounded.

Great Notley Parish Council saw its highest ever turnout and has bought a memorial bench.
