A BRASS band, stilt walkers, LED performers and cultural activities have been announced for this Saturday in Basildon Town Centre.

Basildon Council and Things Made Public CIC have unveiled the activities in place of the traditional Christmas lights switch-on event, which the council controversially cancelled this year.

The full programme of activities for Saturday include the Christmas Brass Band and circus stil walkers between 2pm and 6pm, and LED performers from 3pm to 7pm.

In the Culture Club, set to run events all through the festive season, there will be stripped back, live acoustics from Black Cherry Pop Tart.

Lauren Martin, Creative Director at Things Made Public CIC, said: "We're really looking forward to working in Basildon and the launch of Culture Club on November 17.

"We've planned a range activities and performances that will get everyone in the festive spirit and look forward to meeting local residents at the launch of our pop-up cultural space located on East Square."

All Things Made Public activities are free to the public.
