A man armed with a samurai sword who was shot with a baton gun by police has appeared in court.
John Taylor, 50, sparked a huge police response in Rectory Road on November 10 when he was seen wielding the sword and making threats.
He was short with a baton gun, which fires plastic bullets, by police.
Taylor, of Chatham Pavement, Basildon, pleaded guilty to the possession of an offensive weapon at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on November 12.
He is due to be sentenced on December 10.
