KEEN growers received awards as part of a competition.

Rayleigh Town Council hosted its Rayleigh in Bloom Awards Evening at the Baptist Church.

Rayleigh was awarded three gold awards by Anglia in Bloom for the town, King George V Playing Field and Holy Trinity Church.

Lower Wyburns Woodland received a silver gilt award.

Eddie Johnson, vice chairman of Essex County Council and David Merrick, chairman of Rochford Council were present and awarded prizes alongside Jack Lawmon, chairman of Rayleigh Town Council.

Riverside Nursery, PHS Greenleaf, the Byford family, Rayleigh Town Council and Rayleigh Horticultural Society sponsored and presented awards to competition winners.

Julia Smith and Joan Gibson, Anglia in Bloom judges were thrilled to return to the town they visited in July and presented Certificates of Recognition and Nomination to Fairview Under Fives, Rawreth Court, Edward Byford and Patricia Weaver.

Town Council Chairman, Jack Lawmon said: "This has been a wonderful evening with prizes being presented to all age ranges from our community. We are very proud of the Town’s achievements in the Anglia in Bloom Campaign 2018 and we are very grateful to our sponsors”.
