BLACKPOOL boss Terry McPhillips felt his side fully deserved their 2-1 win against Southend United on Saturday.

Armand Gnanduillet’s late header secured a fourth successive victory for the Seasiders.

And McPhillips felt it was a fair reflection of the game.

“It was an exhilarating game and a close game, which we were expecting, but I thought we shaded it and we had the better chances,” said McPhillips.

“The stats are even enough but I think we had the chances to kill the game off.

“Thankfully we scored at the end to win the game and get the three points.”

The victory pushed Blackpool up to seventh in the League One standings.

And McPhillips was quick to praise his players’ efforts.

“It was a great game and the effort of the lads was supreme,” said McPhillips.

“In the first half we were OK and we went into the lead but we knew we could play better and we didn’t really.

“But the effort was always there and great credit should go to the players.

“This is the fourth long camel ride we’ve had and we go back now.

“We’ve done well on those trips, even the Arsenal game, as well as Gillingham and Exeter.

“Now we can add this to the list, along with Plymouth Argyle away.

“I’m just delighted with the three points to be honest.”

Blackpool’s win was their first at Roots Hall since a 3-0 victory in 2001 and ended a run of three successive defeats away from home against the Shrimpers.
