SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell felt tonight’s 6-2 win at Crawley Town showed the Shrimpers will not do anything the easy way this season.

Blues bagged four goals in extra time to win the FA Cup first round replay at the Broadfield Stadium.

And Powell was happy to see his side get the job done in the end.

“We’re not going to do things the easy way this season and we’ve shown that again tonight,” said Powell.

“Like most managers I would’ve preferred to come here and won 1-0.

“We were cruising at 2-0 but they got one back and then their second is offside but I’m not going to complain because we’ve won.

“We need to learn as a team but in extra time we looked fitter and our class told in the end and we could’ve got seven or eight.

“It’s been a long night but we’ve got through and now we can look forward to a home tie with Barnsley.”

And Powell is hopeful the win will lift Blues who have suffered three successive defeats in League One.

“It’s a morale boosting win and it’s one we needed because we’ve had it hard recently,” added the Shrimpers boss.
