A MAN was left unable to move after slipping from more than two metres onto a ship at a busy port.

Firefighters and the ambulance service rushed rescue the man following the incident at DP World London London Gateway, Stanford-le-Hope.

It happened at about 11:46am today.

The man, was on a ship when he slipped onto the floor of the ship below, was initially left unable to move following an awkward landing.

Firefighters gained access to the ship and successfully lifted the man onto the deck below by 1.04pm, before leaving him in the care of the Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Four Hazardous Response Vehicle Team vehicles were called to London Gateway Drive Stanford-le-Hope, shortly after 11am this morning following reports of a man injured in a fall.

"A man was assessed at the scene, but did not require ambulance transport."

 A spokesman for DP World London Gateway said: "At around 11.15am today, a member of the DP World London Gateway team slipped approximately two-and-a-half metres down a ladder while working on the deck of a ship.

"The injured person sustained bruising and jarring to their upper back and shoulders. The person was assessed by paramedics on site and subsequently went home to recuperate.

"An investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the incident.

"DP World London Gateway would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt and thorough response to this incident."
