A MAN has been jailed for violently raping a woman on an industrial estate.

Jaroslaw Halibozek was on trial at Basildon Crown Court for picking up the woman - who was working as a prostitute - before driving her to an industrial estate and attacking her.

It took a jury of seven women and five men just two hours to find the 29-year-old, of Danbury Close, Leigh, guilty of one count of rape.

Halibozek, who is Polish, was cleared of a second count of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault.

During the five-day trial, the court heard how Halibozek had driven to Ambleside Drive, in Southend, to meet the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

On June 9 this year, he picked up the woman in the well-known red light district of the borough and drove her to Temple Farm industrial estate in Westcliff - specifically the car park of Southend Rugby Club.

Detailing the case for the prosecution, barrister Gareth Hughes said: “He began to demand ‘sex now’ and she made it clear she wanted the money upfront and also made it clear she only performed oral sex.

“But he wasn’t listening to anything she said.”

The court heard the defendant began grabbing at her before she managed to escape the car but Halibozek caught her and dragged her back to the vehicle where the struggle continued.

The woman managed to get away a second time, but he caught up with her again and ripped her dress off as she tried to run away.

Mr Hughes told the court when Halibozek caught her again, he dragged her into the bushes and raped her.

He said: “She was asking him to stop but he ignored her cries.

“Throughout all of this it would have been obvious she wasn’t consenting.

“She was struggling and trying to escape.

“He was ripping her clothes and she was telling him to stop.”

The court heard eventually the woman was able to gather her clothes and run away when she found two men who took her to an illegal rave nearby on the industrial estate.

Mr Hughes said: “She stayed there for a number of hours and didn’t want to leave because she was scared he was out there.

“She didn’t want to tell the police because she was ashamed.”

The victim then headed home and reported the incident to her father at about noon the following day.

Mr Hughes said: “He called 999 and she was taken to Southend Hospital where she was met by police.

“She was examined on June 11 when a nurse spoke to her and noted various injuries on her body.”

Halibozek was arrested the same night on suspicion of drink driving in the town centre after he was spotted driving erratically.

But was later linked to the case by an investigating officer.

He said in interview, via a prepared statement from his solicitor, he paid the woman £25 for consensual sex and answered no comment to questions.

Mr Hughes added: “She is a prostitute selling her sexual services but like anyone else she is entitled to say no and she made it clear at the start of this that she wasn’t going to consent to intercourse.

“It’s absolutely clear that he was determined to have intercourse whether she consented to it or not.

“It doesn’t just come down to a language barrier - she was struggling to fight him off and was trying to run away from him - not once but twice.”

Halibozek, who was assisted throughout the trial by a Polish interpreter, was jailed for seven years by judge Ian Graham at Basildon Crown Court.
