PHARMACISTS were forced to temporarily close down after raiders broke into the store.

Burglars forced their way into the Priory Pharmacy - run by Day Lewis - in East Hill, Colchester, overnight on Tuesday.

The damage was discovered when staff arrived to start their shift yesterday and they reported it to the police.

The pharmacy was shut yesterday morning as staff inspected the medical supplies to try to find out what, if anything, had been taken in the raid.

Staff at the scene said they were unable to comment on the situation but explained they were unable to open because of the incident.

A sign had been stuck to the entrance door which said “Closed due to burglary” and customers were turned away.

Patients at the nearby East Hill Surgery were advised about the situation and asked to find alternative places to pick up their prescriptions or medicines.

A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed they were investigating the incident.

He said: “We were called at around 8.10am on Wednesday with reports of a burglary at Priory Pharmacy, in East Hill, Colchester.

“We received reports that suspects forced entry to the property.

“We are working with the victim to establish if anything has been taken.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone who has information they believe may help the investigation is urged to call Essex Police on 101.
