A dispersal order has been put in place in parts of Basildon and Pitsea following information about a planned unauthorised car cruising event.

It will run from 4pm today, Saturday, December 8, until 9am tomorrow, Sunday, December 9.

It will cover the Pipps Hill area of Basildon to Burnt Mills Road and an area of Pitsea town centre, as shown in the maps.

It gives police officers the power to order people causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area.

Echo:

It is a criminal offence to breach a direction given under the order and in the worst cases this can result in a criminal conviction punishable by up to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to £5,000.

PC Dan Hirsch, of the Basildon Community Policing Team, said: “While we do not have any issue with genuine car enthusiasts, we do not tolerate anti-social behaviour, especially when it has a detrimental effect on the quality of life for local residents.

“They have been affected by previous meets, where they have had sleepless nights and their children have been kept awake by noise.

“Landowners have also suffered from large amounts of litter being left behind and damage caused to their street furniture.”

Anyone who witnesses anti-social driving is asked to call us on 101.
