EAST Thurrock United were unable to build on their derby victory over Chelmsford City as Oxford City recorded their fourth win on the spin.

Rocks travelled to Oxfordshire looking to continue where they left off against Chelmsford, but the hosts ran out 3-1 winners.

East Thurrock knew they faced a tough test against Oxford, who currently sit top of the current form table after a string of impressive results in the National League South.

But the visitors, who included former fans’ favourite Rickie Hayles in the starting line-up after joining from local rivals Billericay Town, made a decent start and went close on three occasions early on.

However, the missed opportunities came back to haunt John Coventry’s side as Oxford broke the deadlock thanks to Kabongo Tshimanga finishing off a fine move on 17 minutes.

But Rocks caught Oxford cold at the start of the second half and Sam Higgins headed home the leveller less than a minute after the interval.

Parity was restored for just three minutes as Tshimanga completed his brace to give the home side the upper-hand once again.

East Thurrock worked hard to find a second equaliser, but they were frustrated in their efforts.

A number of efforts were saved by Oxford goalkeeper Craig King, while a penalty appeal was waved away by referee Amy Fearn.

Oxford’s Zac McEachran, who was making his 100th appearance for the club, rounded off the scoring after 76 minutes.

Rocks, who are without a fixture this weekend, remain in 21st place.
