PUPILS have been urged to walk home in groups after a man indecently exposed himself to a woman in the street near a school.

The incident happened in Nethermayne, Basildon and the woman was left shaken up.

It took place near Woodlands School and the school issued a letter to parents to inform them.

The woman took to Facebook to post about the incident.

She urged others to take care and be alert following the incident.

She said: “I don’t normally post on here but I feel that everyone in the area needs to be aware.

“On my way to the hospital at 7am, I was walking up Nethermayne, and was flashed by a man on the Woodlands School side of the road in the bushes.

“The police have been informed but they have not caught the man in question.

“Please be careful. It was a very frightening experience and I hope he doesn’t do it to anyone else.”

A letter sent from the school, Takely End, stated: “May I take this opportunity to once again remind families that it is good practice for pupils to travel in small groups to safeguard themselves and ensure their journey to and from school is safe.

“If pupils do feel unsafe then they should either return to school or call 999 if an immediate concern. “Senior staff do monitor the surrounding streets and areas but it is advisable for families to regularly discuss personal safety, this will be supported by the curriculum that we provide for all pupils. “Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received a call at around 7.15am on Saturday, December 8, with reports a man had indecently exposed himself to a woman in Nethermayne, Basildon.
