FAMILIES were left without water for more than 24 hours after teens vandalised the water supply, it is claimed.

Residents at the Boleyn House block of flats, which contains 42 homes, in Rochford, lost their water supply on Sunday afternoon.

One resident, who will remain anonymous, took to social media to vent her frustration.

The 26-year-old woman said: “Parents, can you please ask your teenagers where they were on Sunday?

“Some teenagers really kindly decided to turn the stopcock off for the water for Boleyn House flats.

“This has caused a huge leak when it was turned back on and has left 42 flats without water for more than 24 hours.

“I am sick to death of these kids in the area just getting away with things like this.

“Next time I see them hanging around the underground car park in Roche Close, I’m ringing the police, trust me.

“They have no right or need to be in there.”

The block of flats is operated by property management company Rylands and residents claim the company told them it was teenagers.

The 26-year-old woman, who has lived in the flats for eight months, added that her neighbour had only just chased a group of teenagers out of the underground car park where the flats were just before the water supply was compromised.

Rylands provided bottled water to residents in the flats but concerns were raised about vulnerable people in the block who may not be able to go out to the shops themselves.

A plumber attended the property on Tuesday morning and the problem was resolved.

A spokesman for Rylands confirmed residents were left without water for 24 hours but were unable to confirm who was responsible for the vandalism.

The spokesman said: “I can confirm the mains stopcock had been switch off by somebody with out permission. Residents were left without water for just 24 hours and bottles of water were delivered. We also sent a property manager down to the site with the contractor.”
