FIRE crews are battling a blaze which is affecting four properties.

Incident commanders say the fire, in Golden Noble Hill, Colchester, has spread to four flats and the roof of the building, which is two storeys and measures approximately 10 metres by 50 metres.

On arrival, the officer in charge immediately requested further support, including an aerial ladder platform to allow crews to tackle the fire from above.

The fire began shortly after 10am this morning and seven crews are on the scene. 

As of 11am, all occupants of the building were safely evacuated.

Crews remain at the scene and residents are being urged to avoid the area.
