AN AMERICAN football team has raised £2,000 for Little Havens Hospice.
The East Essex Sabres American Football Team decided to support the charity.
The team has its training ground at Deanes School in Thundersley, near the children's hospice.
The group raised the money throughout December by holding a bucket collection at the Canvey Christmas Light Switch On and walking 11 miles from Shoebury, via Fair Havens Hospice in Chalkwell, to Little Havens on December 11.
The group also raised money at their training days.
Alex Buck from the East Essex Sabres said: “This year we wanted to give back to the community who come along to our games and support us.
“I’ll be the first to admit that my knowledge of their work was very minimal, and it’s been a pleasure to learn and understand that it is so much more than people think a hospice is. Little Havens is a very positive, colourful and happy place to be and I’ve been honoured myself to be able to visit on a couple of occasions now. It’s inspiring to see how much time and consideration they take for a child and the whole family too."
