Aveley residents will be invited to have their say on plans to prevent HGVs travelling in violation of the 7.5tonne weight limit within the village’s vicinity.

A public consultation will run between Wednesday 16 January and Thursday 28 February, offering locals a platform to air their views on proposals to implement restrictive measures on unauthorised HGVs using the local area. Every property in the village will receive a consultation pack and council officers will attend the forum meeting on Wednesday 16 January. Further information will also be available to view at Aveley Library.

This plan follows a number of concerns brought forward by residents about HGV movements in Aveley.

Once the consultation closes, an appropriate scheme will be drawn up and finalised in 2019/20 in discussion with the Portfolio Holder and shared with local ward members and forums before implementation.

Councillor Watkins, portfolio holder for environment, said: “We know that residents, our MP Jackie Doyle-Price and ward councillors, both past and present, are concerned about HGVs using Aveley as a shortcut between the A13 and industrial areas in South Ockendon, and we are moving to take action on this public nuisance.

“We’d like to reassure those affected that we have been working on a solution to this issue for some time and will get something in place sooner rather than later. I would urge anyone living in the area to take part in this consultation and show their support for our plans.”
