LONDON One North leaders Rochford Hundred surged nine points clear at the top of the table with a 60-5 win at Diss.

The victory made it 17 victories for unbeaten Hundred this season.

But scrum half Steve Jay, who was among Rochford’s try scorers, was not completely satisfied.

“I think despite the score on Saturday a lot of the boys will feel there was plenty to work on and we were nowhere near as clinical as the score would suggest,” said Jay.

“We needed to tidy up our breakdown work but we managed to do that a bit more efficiently in the second half.”

The victory also saw Rochford score their 1,000th point of the season.

And Jay was pleased to add to the tally with a try of his own.

“It was nice to get on the scoreboard again but there is a way to go for us to catch Huddy (Harry Hudson), who can’t seem to stop scoring,” said Jay.

“But for me personally it was also nice to be involved again after a short break following a head knock.”

However, Jay will now be looking to continue Rochford’s fine run of results as they bid to secure a second successive promotion.

“We have been trying a few new things this month but ultimately our goals haven’t changed,” said Jay.

“We hope to retain our 100 per cent record until the end of the season.”

Diss, who sit bottom of the table, took a shock lead with an early try but Jay touched down to level the scores.

Hudson soon put Rochford in front with a try before Jamie Douglas, Mark Billings and Chris Dudman all touched down to put Hundred 29-5 in front at half-time.

After the break, Billings was the next to score before Stuart Whatling and Sam Fombo also touched down.

Moments later, Billings completed his hat-trick with another try before Hudson sealed the win with a late try.

Rochford, who have not lost since April 2017, will be confident of continuing their unbeaten run when they host 10th-placed Sudbury this weekend.
