HUNDREDS of people flocked down to the brand new Marks and Spencer Foodhall and took advantage of some fantastic giveaways.

The new store which opened yesterday morning (January 23), at the island’s new retail park, at Roscommon Way, saw the first 200 customers through the door get hold of a golden ticket.These will include £5 and £20 off vouchers, as well as a £200 gift voucher and two £100 gift vouchers.

Lucky couple, Mr and Mrs Tickell, from Canvey, were thrilled to be the winners of the £200 gift card.

Mrs Tickell, said: “We thought we’d come and have a look today and when we saw how big the queue was we nearly turned back, but I’m very glad we didn’t.”

The store was officially opened by Councillor Barry Campagna, town mayor of Canvey, and Councillor Clive Walter, mayor of Castle Point.

Councillor Campagna said: “We’ve been waiting for a long time for M&S to arrive and hopefully it will encourage others to come to the region.

“I think the people of Canvey will really support the new store and I’m extremely pleased to be here.

“My main job is to promote Canvey and M&S coming here has been a great boost for the area.”

Claire Benson, store manager said: “The team has been working so hard to get ready for the opening and it’s been brilliant to see the community turn out to support us today.

“The shelves are bursting with everything from lunches to go, to everyday essentials, to dinners perfect for sharing with family and friends.

“We’re excited to be part of the Canvey community and we can’t wait to get to know our local customers.”

The store also offers the full range of M&S clothing and home products via its Collect in Store service. Customers can opt for next day pick up if they order by 10pm the night before on M&S.com

The store is located at Canvey Retail Park, , Canvey, and will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am until 9pm, and on Sunday, 10am until 4pm.
