BREWERS are appealing for information after thugs smashed their way into a business and stole a safe containing thousands of pounds in cash.

Trevor Jeffery, who runs the Billericay Brewing Company, was left devastated after he found thieves had broken into his business. at the weekend.

The burglars stole the safe containing the weekend’s takings and also a set of keys which meant all the locks had to be replaced at the micropub, in Chapel Street.

Mr Jeffery, who has run the company for five years, said: “We are an independent business so this will undoubtedly have a major impact especially at this time of year when it’s a bit quieter.

“They smashed one of the windows to the pub and took the safe, then left again. I think they must have known what they were looking for.

“They also took a set of keys so we had to get the locksmiths in to change the locks which was a huge inconvenience.”

Police are investigating and Mr Jeffery is hoping members of the public may be able to help with information.

He added: “It’s fortunate nobody was hurt but with the cash gone and having to repair the damage done, we will be looking at more than £3,000 - that’s a significant sum for an independent business.

“I think Harry’s Bar, in the high street, was broken into as well and I believe police are investigating a possible link.

“It’s comforting in one way to know the police are taking it seriously. It doesn’t help too much but it’s a relief.

“It’s nice that a lot of people have reached out and shown their support.

“A few people came in the day after to check we were OK which shows most people in Billericay are great.”
