A MAN was arrested for theft and driving offences after a police chase through Laindon.
Eye witnesses have reported seeing four police cars chasing a Ford Fiesta down Tavistock Road early yesterday morning.
Reports have said the noise of sirens were followed by a large bang, when the car chase ended as the vehicle crashed through a fence.
Three were detained, but only one was arrested.
A spokesperson from Essex Police said: “We have arrested a man with theft and driving offences following a pursuit in Basildon on Thursday, February 7.
“We attempted to stop a vehicle without success at about 12.20am.
“The vehicle drove off at speed before crashing with a fence and our police car near to Tavistock Road.
“Fortunately, no one was injured and three people were detained.
“A 19-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of theft of a car, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed and driving with excess drugs. He remains in custody for questioning.
"The other two people with dealt with at the roadside.”
