The health watchdog has confirmed an inspection is underway at a care home where police are also investigating abuse allegations.

This morning, the Echo reported how nine staff members had been suspended at Ghyll Grove care home in Basildon after allegations of abuse sparked a detailed review of care provided at one ward of the home.

Essex Police are currently investigation one allegation of abuse relating to one resident after worried family members captured concerning footage on a private camera.

The Care Quality Commission - the health watchdog - has confirmed an inspection is underway at the home and they are liaising with police as part of the investigation.

A spokesman said: “CQC is aware of the police investigation concerning Ghyll Grove care home in Essex.

"We are liaising with the local authority and the police with regard to this and the home.

"A CQC inspection is currently underway and the findings from this will be published in due course. Meanwhile we await the outcome of the police investigation.”

After their previous inspection, the report of which was published in June 2017, the care home was rated good when the care home was operated by Bupa.

A previous inspection in 2016 had found the care home required improvement.
