A THUG has been locked up for ten years after he attacked a Good Samaritan who tried to help him.

John Eggleton-Thompson, 24, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen at Basildon Crown Court on Monday

The 58-year-old victim was driving along Southernhay, in Basildon, at about 3.40am when she saw Eggleton-Thompson in a parked car.

She believed he was sick and in danger so rushed over to help.

He got out of his car and attacked her punching her to the ground and then kicking her in the head.

Eggleton-Thompson then drove off from the scene in his Ford Focus.

Police and paramedics responded and officers from Essex Police spotted his vehicle.

After attempting to stop the car, Eggleton-Thompson proceeded to ram a police vehicle until he was forced to stop in White Elm Road, Bicknacre.

He was immediately arrested and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

He failed to provide a specimen for drink and drug tests so was charged with that as well.

A passenger in Eggleton-Thompson’s car, a 33-year-old woman from Tilbury, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of drugs and was later released without charge.

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious hip injuries and has since recovered from her physical injuries however it is understood the vicious attack has left her extremely shaken mentally and emotionally after her kind gesture was met with such brutality.

Eggleton-Thompson, of Mill Lane, Grays, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on December 10 where the case was referred to the crown court for sentencing due to the serious nature of the offences.

He appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Monday, February 11, where he admitted all three offences.

He was handed a nine-year prison sentence for GBH and a one-year prison sentence to run consecutively for dangerous driving making a total of ten years. He was also disqualified from driving for eight years following the December attack.
