A ROGUE driver has been sentenced after being found behind the wheel of a car in Rochford just weeks before his ban was due to finish.

Stephen Boreham, 38, of Golden Cross Parade, Rochford, was disqualified for six months and jailed for eight weeks at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

At approximately 7.45am on July 6 last year, Boreham was stopped driving a vehicle in Ashingdon Road that was insured to someone else.

Boreham gave his details to officers and he was arrested for driving while disqualified. His six month disqualification was due to finish on July 31.

Matt Hine, of Essex Police’s Casualty Reduction Section, said: “Boreham had just a few weeks remaining on his ban when he drove a vehicle as a disqualified driver.

“He claimed that his disqualification had already finished. We quickly showed him documentation that proved he still had 25 days left to serve.

“Whether this was simple miscalculation or a lie, the law is clear, you must respect your disqualification.

“Boreham will now face the consequences of his actions with a time in prison and a further six months ban.”
