At last the truth is coming to light regarding the overrunning cost of the work at Kent Elms. At best it could be described as a fiasco, but at worst it could be described as dereliction of duty.
It has been going on for so long now that responsibility rests on no one person's shoulders and this has been done so that the waters are so muddy that this is the case.
If this had happened in the private sector then heads would have rolled long before we got to this situation, and so I believe that all of those people associated with Southend Council that have signed off on any contracts or authorised any major work should be sacked for gross misconduct or mismanagement of public funds, and also forfeit their pensions.
No one who has been involved in this fiasco should be given the time to resign with any nestegg. They have been either totally incompetent, inadequate or just didn't care.
I wonder if the £2.2 million quoted includes the salaries of those members of staff on the council who should have been engaged in other duties during the over run, I think not.
