A HUGE amount of cocaine and heroin were seized by police following a tactical operation in Basildon.

A teenager has been remanded in custody after appearing in court.

Tyrese Terry, 18, of Tate Close, Basildon, was charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin and possession of a blade in a public place.

He was also charged with three counts of possession of cannabis, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and being concerned in the supply of heroin.

A 37-year-old woman from Basildon was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and permitting premises to be used for the supply of drugs.

She has been released on bail until March 18.

Terry was arrested on on Thursday and appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

He was remanded into custody and the case was sent for trial at Basildon Crown Court with a plea hearing expected on March 15.

Officers from Essex Police’s Operation Raptor South took to social media following a number of raids around the area.

Insp Rob Maile said: “After a frustrating start to this investigation the team worked hard with some long hours.

“Some great work and team effort.”

Councillors also congratulated police for their work.

Andy Barnes, chairman of Basildon Council’s communities committee said: “I think this is further evidence that police are now getting to grips with the issue of drugs in our borough.

“Clearly police operations like this are now starting to get results which is positive news.

“We are getting more police and with these police operations getting results, we have a lot of positive news for policing and crime.”

No pleas have been entered to any of the charges. The seizure was part of a wider operation into the growing problem of drugs and violence on the streets of south Essex.
