A man has been charged in connection with an standoff in Southend high street.

Southend high street was put on lock down after a man climbed on to the roof of the old Topshop building in his underpants.

Armed police attended and the high street was closed while they attempted to bring him into custody safely.

The incident is believed to be connected the shooting at Barkin Station on Wednesday last week.

Yesterday a 25-year-old man was charged in connection with both incidents.

Beinvenu Vangu of Wood Green, Haringey, London, unemployed, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm when prohibited for life and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He will appear tomorrow at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court.
