RAYLEIGH and Wickford MP Mark Francois got into a staring competition on live television following a heated argument about Brexit.

Tempers were flaring between the Tory MP and author Will Self on the BBC discussion show Politics Live today.

The pair were discussing the role of racism and anti-Semitism in politics, particularly in the EU referendum in 2016.

The discussion became heated when Mr Self suggested that every racist and an anti-semite in the country "probably voted for Brexit".

Mr Francois, who campaigned for the UK to leave the European Union in 2016, said the remark was "offensive" and demanded Mr Self apologise.

When the author didn't, this led to an argument resulting in presenter Jo Coburn moving onto talk to other guests.

The two could then be seen staring hard at each other for around ten seconds.

We may never know who blinked first.
