Armed police swooped to a road with reports of men with weapons.
The officers were seen in York Road, Southend last night.
A man was arrested after being wanted on recall from prison.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called at around 8.55pm yesterday, Saturday, March 16, after man reported seeing two men in possession of weapons in York Road, Southend.
"We found two men matching the description given by the man and they had no weapons on them.
"One of the men, a 32-year-old man from Southend, was arrested after being wanted on recall to prison."
