A ROAD is expected to be closed until the end of next week after a water main burst and left some homes under water.

Bosses say a road closure in Cressing Road, in Braintree, will be in place for another eight days while the road is repaired. Further work is expected to take place this summer.

Water was first spotted seeping through the road surface on Tuesday morning and it soon left the asphalt, pavements and some driveways completely submerged.

Louise Rothwell, who runs her business trebor photography from her home in Cressing Road, said she was shocked.

Mrs Rothwell said: “Three houses along from us, the road has collapsed which seems to have caused the pipe to burst.

“We’ve had to cancel all of our appointments with our clients today so we’ve probably lost around £700. It’s the second time it’s happened this year and it doesn’t leave you with any faith that it won’t happen again.

“Yesterday morning we woke up and didn’t have any water so we couldn’t shower and now we’re dealing with this again – it’s not good enough.”

Mrs Rothwell and her husband are now waiting to find out if any water got underneath the house through vents.

It is the second time this year Cressing Road residents have had to deal with broken water pipes, after the road also flooded on New Year’s Day.

It is believed the water main which broke on Tuesday is different to the one on January 1. Residents have recalled it also flooded in December 2014.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said: “A team was quickly on site and ensured homes had their water restored almost immediately, but unfortunately a small number of nearby homes have flooded.

“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Our teams are on site helping the residents that have been affected and a clean-up is under way.

"We know how upsetting flooding can be and we’ll foot the bill for any damage caused and work to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

“We’ve moved water around our network to return all customer supplies to normal but due to the nature of the burst, a full road closure is currently in place to allow our teams to make the repairs as quickly, and as safely, as possible.”
