Sussex Conservative MP Henry Smith summed up the mood of the nation over Brexit on Twitter last night when he declared "enough of this bullsh*t".

The Conservative MP for Crawley posted "enough of this bullsh*t, the British people by the largest majority in UK poll history voted to leave the EU. Just do it and move into a better future ".

After another Brexit deadlock, three knackered Sussex MPs, two Labour and one Conservative expressed their frustration last night as the seemingly endless debate on Britain's exit from the EU failed to find a resolution once again.

A clearly frustrated Mr Smith, speaking to The Argus, said: "This has to end. We have got clear instructions from the British people and Parliament.

"I think the Prime Minister, Theresa May, should just get on with it. It's a betrayal to democracy, we should have left last Friday. Any further delays would be more dangerous for the country.

"I put a point to her when I met her on Monday afternoon, there's a clear mandate that she should deliver. We need new leadership.

"The protesters (against climate change who stripped off in the public gallery) last night gave us some distraction. I do sympathise with them and sometimes the danger of the whole debate is we get distracted and forget other important issues."

Brighton Kemptown Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Hove and Portslade Labour MP Peter Kyle, plus Mr Smith all stated "this cannot go on". Parliament has to find a solution and sooner rather than later.

Yet again all potential amendments, including one by Mr Kyle which was narrowly defeated were rejected by Parliament leaving the house in complete quandary.

The Argus:

Mr Russell-Moyle said: "We will be in a real problem if no one supports any way forward. I think we can avoid the stress of a general election if the Government compromises."

All three MPs agreed that Prime Minister Mrs May's time is up. Mr Kyle said: "I have barely four hours' sleep at night in recent weeks while trying to find a solution.

"MPs on all sides are doing their best to somehow find a solution.

"It's so frustrating, in fact, there have been MPs on both sides of the house who have been in tears.

"We have to find a solution, the pressure is relentless but somehow we have to resolve this.

"I won't give up. I am committed and I know my fellow MPs want to see this resolved sooner rather than later.

"This cannot carry on, somehow there has to be a meeting of minds so that we can come to some sort of agreement.

"But, time is running out. We are all fully aware that there has to be a solution. I will be talking to my fellow Sussex MPs including Lloyd and Henry so that we can somehow put a deal before Parliament that is finally acceptable."
