THE CITY’S Labour Party has promised to build two autism spectrum disorder centres should it be re-elected in the upcoming local elections.

The party also says it will do everything in its power, including lobbying the Government, for extra funding to eradicate asbestos wherever it exists in the city.

This is part of a commitment to “apply the highest standards of safety management in schools”.

In a response to cuts to policing services by the national government, the Brighton and Hove Labour Party is pledging to establish a fund to enhance the provision of community policing as well as other community services.

This includes a promise to explore ward budgets.

In light of the death of 50 Muslims in New Zealand, the party also vowed to protect the city’s proud status as a City of Sanctuary, as well as extending a commitment to protect victims of racial, religious, or sexual abuse, as well as other bigotry and violence.

Councillor Emma Daniels, Labour chairwoman of the equalities and communities committee, said, “The next Labour council will continue to recognise the value of all our communities, our vibrant community and voluntary sector and the importance of free community space for quality of life, health and fairness.

“We will undertake a poverty commission to look at how we best use the resources we have to help those households living in increasingly difficult situations as failed welfare reforms mean working families are living below the breadline. Pulling together as a city we will continue to make a difference.

“We believe as a city we are strongest when we stand together, and we will unfailingly stand with all our communities and remain a City of Sanctuary.”

Leader of the city council, Daniel Yates, added: “We will ensure that our city schools perform better than the national average.

“The city is a proud home to many who value its diversity and openness.

“We will work throughout the next four years to protect and enhance the lives of all groups and residents; putting power in their hands and valuing their contributions.”
