Firefighters rushed to a fire on a conveyor belt at a busy port.

The wood chippings caught alight at Port of Tilbury last night at 10.49pm.

Three fire crews were called to the scene.

Firefighters were called to the commercial warehouse in Tilbury to reports of wood chippings alight inside an enclosed conveyor belt machine.

Fire crews worked with the onsite engineers to clear the conveyor belt of the wood chippings while using water to extinguish the chippings which were alight.

Fire crews managed to extinguish the fire by 1am.

The cause of the fire was recorded as accidental.
