A MAN has died after a car crashed into some railings in Basildon.

Police have launched an investigation after the silver Renault Megane crashed into the railings near the junction between School Avenue and High Road, Laindon, Basildon.

It happened at approximately 11.20am this morning.

Paramedics and an air ambulance attended but sadly, the driver of the car died at the scene.

Officers believe the man may have fallen unwell when driving the car.

Essex Police have now launched an investigation.

A spokesman said: "Officers were called at 11.20am today following reports that a collision had occurred at the junction of School Avenue and High Road, Laindon.

"The silver Megane was in collision with a barrier and it is not believed that any other vehicle was involved.

"Paramedics and the air ambulance attended the scene and, despite their best efforts, the man sadly died.

"Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash but it is believed the man may have fallen unwell at the wheel."
