AN OAP in her nineties was knocked to the floor in an attempted robbery by men on bikes.

A police appeal has been launched after the 93-year-old woman suffered a head injury after the incident which happened on Albion Road, Westcliff at 11.15am on Tuesday.

The woman was approached by two men on bikes, who knocked her to the floor, causing her to hit her head.

The men then rode away on their bikes.

An ambulance was called and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Police are investigating whether the incident is related to another that happened on the same day.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are investigating whether this incident is linked to the attempted theft of a woman’s bag in Prittlewell Chase at around 10.50am that day.

"A woman in her 20s reported that two men on bikes approached her and tried to take her handbag without success.

"The men have been described as being white, aged in their late 30s and wore black hoodies with the hood up and jeans. One of the men possibly had a tattoo across his right temple."
