HOSPICE bosses are thanking the community for its support and calling for more.

Havens Hospices is recognising support on Canvey and asking for another push ahead of a two-week fundraising challenge.

The event will help raise funds for the new Fair Havens, which the charity is building opposite Priory Park in Prittlewell.

The Canvey community challenge starts on Saturday, May 4 at the Lobster Smack Pub with a family fun day, which starts at midday and runs until 5pm – all are welcome and there will be plenty of activities and entertainment for all the family.

The island will then be challenged to fundraise £20,000 over the next 14 days, before coming together on Saturday, May 18 for a sponsored walk along the seawall starting at the Labworth Café and finishing at the Island Yacht Club.

Sally Bridger, community fundraiser for Havens Hospices has been visiting the island locations.

She said on Twitter: “Lovely to meet at the Lobster Smack on Canvey to discuss the wonderful plans they have for the launch day.”

Emma Young, community fundraiser at Havens Hospices said: “We can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters and we need their help and generosity more than ever.

“The south Essex population needs a new purpose-built hospice for the future and we’re really close, but we need the local community’s help to make it happen.

“We’re asking local businesses, clubs, schools, groups, friends and families to get involved and help raise £20,000 for a new Fair Havens.

“Thank you to the Lobster Smack team for organising the launch event.”
