FURIOUS commuters were stuck in a bumper to bumper traffic after a delivery truck allegedly blocked cars from getting past while unloading.

Onlookers said the Wren Kitchens truck pulled up on the kerb of the narrow Sutton Road, just before the Anne Boleyn pub in Rochford, holding drivers up by up to 45 minutes on Tuesday morning.

Graham Jones, one of the commuters who was stuck in the chaos, said: “I was absolutely outraged Wren Kitchens decided to make a delivery during rush hour and the school run, causing a ten mile traffic jam.

“They blocked an entire lane causing huge build up of traffic and caused hundreds of people to be late for work and school.”

A 27-year-old woman who didn’t want to be named, added: “It started from Rochford Square when I left for work around 7.45am. My boyfriend and I were stuck in it.

“I was late for work.

“It was gridlocked all the way back from where the lorry was.

“It took around 35 mins to get to work.

“People were waving their hands about in their cars.

“They shouldn’t have been delivering at that time when people are going to work, it was inconvenient.”

Residents have also raised concerns over the more regular traffic jams in Rochford.

Christopher Peugniez told the Echo: “This was certainly the worst traffic I’ve experienced since moving to Rochford just over a year ago.

“The commute was frustrating, arriving 30 minutes late to work in Southend.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the reason behind the congestion despite being stuck in it for nearly an hour.

“Allegedly, it was a delivery van and clearly there needs to be some responsibility taken here.”Moreover, I think local government needs to look at ways to manage traffic in this area, as well as reducing air pollution and protecting the environment.”

Wren Kitchens were contacted for a response but declined to comment.
